Project Based Learning

Project-Based Learning The Renaissance Way

One of the core components of Renaissance Middle School’s magnet is project-based learning or PBL. We believe that while our teachers are the content specialists in the classroom, lessons go beyond the instruction. Classroom learning should be performance based and student centered.

Providing students with innovative, high-quality projects is not an easy task. In fact, it takes a clear, coherent, and compelling vision that shapes a culture of hands-on learning and encourages appropriate risk taking on the part of the teacher designing the lesson as well as the student executing the project. Additionally, the school’s set up needs to foster a project-based learning environment. Renaissance Middle School’s master schedule, inclusive of block periods, allow for flexible lesson planning. Also, teachers are provided with more individual and collaborative planning and learning time.

Renaissance Middle School Staff have been providing students with PBL experiences since the first day of school. Each high-quality dynamic lesson must possess these components; Critical Thinking, Authenticity, The Product, Collaboration, Time Management and Reflection.
